A rebrand is loading

I’ve wondered for a while if this space needs a rebrand.
I started Maryn is Here because I needed an outlet to express myself. I didn’t necessarily have plans for it beyond just showing up and sharing what’s on my mind. I eventually described my newsletter as “an attempt to understand myself and life.”
A lot has changed in my life over the past few months, a big catalyst being OCD treatment. I’ve learned that one way OCD can manifest itself, at least for me, is an ongoing, obsessive attempt to… understand myself and life.
I don’t think trying to understand yourself is a bad thing. But for me, I’m realizing I’ve spent so much time and energy endlessly seeking to figure out my internal experience that that I’ve missed out on making space for other experiences.
I hinted at this in my last post, “A summer of doing more and thinking less.” Where previously I’d spend a lot of my free time pondering the meaning of life and sorting out my feelings, lately I’ve been doing more. Doing more of the things that I’ve always held as values but wasn’t investing time in. Namely, creating and community building.
So I suppose I want to pivot this space a bit accordingly. I don’t know what this is going to look like yet, but I think I’m going to rename it Here is Good.

craft with me?
In July, I started a monthly craft night for my neighborhood. We’ve had two so far! People bring their own craft and we gather round and create with excellent company. For those of us who participate, it has transformed our community experience in the neighborhood.
The neighborhood craft night will continue, but it has made me want to try… wait for it… a VIRTUAL CRAFT NIGHT.
So I’m going for it. Tuesday, September 10. 7:30-9:00 pm ET. Bring your own craft. Meet some neat people.
The event will be in Gather, a virtual meeting platform that lets you create your own avatar and walk around a virtual space (yes, you read that right). The free version of Gather has a limit of 10 people, so that will also be the capacity limit for this gathering.

Okay, I can’t resist sharing my recent sewing creations — then I’ll wrap this up.
Perhaps someday I will take better photos. But! I made hot pink cargo pants! And a nifty vest (made from fabric gifted by my sweet neighbor)! And a crossbody bag (made with thrifted and gifted fabric)!
I almost can’t believe I’m saying this, but sewing is my favorite thing right now.

YES to Here is Good - because there is so so so much good here! It's such an honor to witness your explorations and insights. It is in the mind where suffering is often amplified and it's so cool to see you finding your way to creating and having experiences as a path to more healing, self compassion and ease.
